When it needs to be made clear why the cooperation makes sense for both sides.

Make the benefits of cooperation or the desired behavior visible so that the other person is more motivated to go along.

When does this fit?

When clarity of purpose alone is not enough and the conversation needs additional motivation for approval or cooperation.

Priority in the path

This node becomes especially important when conflict with others describes the actual situation.

What this is about

Reinforce is the fourth step of DEAR MAN: explaining the benefits the other person receives from giving you what you want — and doing so before the request is granted, not after. The goal is to increase the probability that the other person will say yes by making the positive consequences of doing so explicit. This is not manipulation — it is providing information that helps the other person make an informed decision. Reinforcing can mean explaining a direct benefit, expressing genuine appreciation, or identifying what the relationship gains. It requires knowing something about what the other person cares about, and speaking to that.
