DEAR MAN: Mindful
DEAR MANMindful(= Achtsam bleiben)
When you have to stick to the actual issue despite distraction or opposition.
Stick to the core line in the conversation, even if distractions, provocations or changes in topic pull you away from the actual concern.
When does this fit?
When you already know what you want to say, but easily lose focus under pressure or resistance.
Priority in the path
This node becomes especially important when conflict with others describes the actual situation.
What this is about
Stay Mindful is the fifth step of DEAR MAN: keeping attention focused on the objective of the interaction, even when the other person attacks, deflects, or goes off-topic. Common tactics that pull people off their objectives include personal attacks, arguing about side issues, silence or stonewalling, or changing the subject.
The skill involves returning repeatedly to the request or position without escalating, using techniques like the broken record (repeating calmly) or ignoring attacks and responding only to the relevant content. Staying mindful does not mean being inflexible — it means not losing sight of what you came to the interaction to accomplish.
