Mindfulness How-Skills
When you have to mindfully align not just what you do, but how you do it.
Organize the three how-skills of mindfulness so that it becomes clear in which attitude mindfulness should be carried out in practice.
When does this fit?
When it is not the next content but the inner execution attitude of mindfulness that needs to be clarified.
Priority in the path
This node fits early in the path when inner restlessness or strong emotional activation are in the foreground.
What this is about
The Mindfulness How Skills describe the manner in which mindfulness is practiced: Nonjudgmentally (without evaluating experience as good or bad), One-mindfully (with full attention on one thing at a time), and Effectively (doing what works to achieve goals rather than what is right or fair or ego-satisfying). The How Skills operate like a quality filter for all other DBT skills — they specify the attitude and orientation with which any practice should be engaged.
Nonjudgmentalness reduces the emotional amplification that evaluation adds. One-mindfulness prevents the fragmentation that divides attention. Effectiveness keeps the focus on actual outcomes rather than pride, principle, or willfulness.
The components
Nonjudgmentally: Nicht-bewertend
When before further understanding or action, the evaluative narrowness must first be released so that reality can be seen more precisely again.One-Mindfully: Konzentriert
When what is needed is not more content but less fragmentation so that the current step can be taken whole again.Effectively: Wirkungsvoll
When the key question is no longer what would be ideal, but rather what actually helps in this situation.
