Where do they differ?

Check the Facts vs. Opposite Action vs. Problem Solving
Comparison axisCheck the FactsOpposite ActionProblem Solving
Primary questionDoes my appraisal actually fit the situation?Which action would deliberately go against my current emotional direction?Which changeable part can I address concretely?
DirectionCorrect interpretation, assumptions, and emotional fit.Change emotion-driven action tendencies through a deliberately opposite response.Plan steps, options, and concrete change.
Typical contextFear, shame, uncertainty, escalating thoughts.Withdrawal, attack, avoidance, or freezing as an unhelpful emotional direction.Daily problems, plannable conflicts, workable obstacles.

What this is about

These three skills belong to the same emotion-regulation space, but they intervene at different leverage points. Check the Facts tests whether the emotional appraisal fits the situation. Opposite Action starts one step later: the appraisal may still feel compelling, but the action tendency itself needs a deliberate turn toward something more effective.

Problem Solving becomes the right path when there really is a changeable external problem that should be worked on rather than only regulated internally. The key question is therefore not which skill is stronger, but whether appraisal, action tendency, or real-world problem is the narrowest bottleneck right now.
